Even in the Coronavirus age we continue to fight for victims of medical malpractice. I took a deposition via Zoom today of a resident obstetrician who said that an admitting obstetrician violated the standard of care in forging ahead with an ill-fatal trail of labor.
The doctor had tried and failed to deliver a baby by vacuum and despite fetal distress, continued allowing hours of additional labor when clearly a C-section was needed. The baby suffered severe asphyxia, cerebral palsy and cognitive impairment.
This was preventable. I am always shocked at the various ways that obstetrical care providers place babies in the path of harm when there are viable options to avoid tragedy.
