Chiropractors’ Treatment Of The Neck Can Cause Stroke, Death

On Behalf of | May 21, 2012 | Medical Malpractice

Recent studies have linked chiropractic manipulation of the neck to strokes and sudden death. The most recent study, conducted by a group of neurosurgeons, concludes that “chiropractic manipulation of the cervical spine can product dissections involving the cervical and cranial segments of the vertebral and carotid arteries.”

In layperson’s terms, the study’s authors believe that a chiropractor’s forceful rotation of the patient’s neck can do serious damage by overstretching arteries. The overstretching can cause the patient to suffer a stroke, often resulting in wrongful death. The stroke can occur during the chiropractic treatment, or in the following hours, weeks or months.

The recent study contributes to a growing abundance of evidence showing that chiropractic treatment of the spine can cause fatal strokes. More than 500 situations have been documented where a patient receives chiropractic treatment and dies soon after, according to The Guardian.

The data provides caution to those suffering from neck or back pain. The old belief was that a chiropractor may take your money and provide you with no relief, but you’d physically be no worse off. Now, a growing number of experts insist that chiropractice malpractice may cost you your life.
