When a person needs medical attention, they are at their most vulnerable and deserve the highest level of compassion and care. Psychiatric patients, especially minors, are particularly fragile and should be a given that extra attention and supervision. Precautions must be in place to protect these patients when entrusted to the care of medical professionals.
Recently we took a case from parents whose minor son was experiencing suicidal ideation and they entrusted him to Harbor Oaks medical personnel for psychiatric evaluation and care. Against protocol – not to mention human decency and reason — he was placed unsupervised in a room with known violent offender who subsequently sexually assaulted him.
The boy is now worse off than ever due to the negligence of those who were sworn to help him.
Unfortunately, this is not the first time this facility has come under scrutiny for violent and sexual assaults against its patients. It is also not the first time it has failed to take responsibility and remedy the problems that has caused these situations to reoccur.
Since Harbor Oaks doesn’t heed the complaints of those they have harmed, we will make them listen through the legal action.
